چکیده

To the editors, We read with great interest the article titled “DiffusionWeighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging for the Evaluation of Prostate Cancer: Optimal B Value at 3T” by Ji Hyun Koo et al. (1), published in the Korean Journal of Radiology (DOI: 10.3348/kjr.2013.14.1.61). This article will be a useful diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) guide for radiologists in assessing prostatic cancer. In the paper, the authors compared 4 different b values and suggested them for predicting prostate cancer; the optimal b value for 3T DWI was found to be 1000 s/mm. However, even with high b values, the overlap of the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) limits the accuracy of DWI in cancer detection, particularly in the transitional zone tissue, due to its lower ADC compared to the peripheral zone tissue (2). Therefore, we aimed to mention that, with

بررسی ارزش Diffusion Weighted Imaging در تصاویر MRI برای تشخیص سرطان پروستات

Background: Prostate cancer is the third leading cause of death and is the most common cause of cancer in elderly men. Regarding to the low accuracy of screening methods such as prostate-specific antigen (PSA), Digital Rectal Examination (DRE) and trans rectal ultrasound (TRUS) in detection and localization of tumor, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Diffusion Weighted Imaging (DWI) attracte...

Signal Intensity of High B-value Diffusion-weighted Imaging for the Detection of Prostate Cancer

Background: Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) is a main component of multiparametric MRI for prostate cancer detection. Recently, high b value DWI has gained more attention because of its capability for tumor characterization. Objective: To assess based on histopathological findings of transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)-guided prostate biopsy as a reference, an...

Detecting prostate cancer and prostatic calcifications using advanced magnetic resonance imaging

Prostate cancer and prostatic calcifications have a high incidence in elderly men. We aimed to investigate the diagnostic capabilities of susceptibility-weighted imaging in detecting prostate cancer and prostatic calcifications. A total number of 156 men, including 34 with prostate cancer and 122 with benign prostate were enrolled in this study. Computed tomography, conventional magnetic resona...

Multiparametric Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Recurrent Prostate Cancer.

Multiparametric magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the prostate combines both morphological and functional MR techniques by utilizing small field of view T1-weighted, T2-weighted, diffusion-weighted imaging, dynamic contrast-enhanced imaging, and MR spectroscopy to accurately detect, localize, and stage primary and recurrent prostate cancer. Localizing the site of recurrence in patients with ri...

Comparison of HASTE & EPI Diffusion Weighted Images in the Prostate

Introduction: Echo Planar Diffusion weighted imaging is the current method of choice for utilising the diffusion properties of water to localise cancer tumours. While it has had success in distinguishing tumours from tissue it is highly sensitive to patient motion, chemical shift, magnetic susceptibility and phase error build up. We propose the use of HASTE, which is less affected by these arte...
